Behind the scenes: HAM Mugs

First stop on the HAM on the Road tour is home of ceramics, Stoke-On-Trent. Here we meet the talented people responsible for decorating our best selling mug collection.
Inside the family run pottery, we talk to owner David who tells us a bit about how Rabbit comes to life. Each mug is hand decorated by lithographer Gill using a screen printed transfer. She dips the vivid yellow paper (the colour comes from a special covercoat used to protect the pattern) in water and then meticulously applies the wrap to a warm mug to aid positioning. As soon as she is happy the design is in the right place it heads off to the kiln to be fired. Once Rabbit and the whiteware have bonded the mugs are carefully checked, packed up and sent down to HAM HQ.
